USEF Bans Medroxyprogesterone Acetate

As of December 1, 2019, Medroxyprogesterone Acetate, a/k/a Depo-Provera, has been banned by the USEF for use in competition horses due to it having "no therapeutic use" and it having been linked to anaphylaxis and fatalities. Originally this drug was thought to control estrus in mares; however, research has revealed that it has no effect on estrus and is instead being misused as a tranquilizer on horses of both sexes to make them more rideable.
